Some Challenges of the Home
As mentioned earlier, the FST Sisters started managing the Home with challenges, the major one being funding, which they have started to tackle by initiating some fund-generating projects. However, since their needs continue to grow, more funding, especially from donors is still needed.
Some of the children are usually found to be malnourished at the time of entering the Home and a lot of money goes into reviving them.
The only vehicle that served the Home was recently involved in an accident through no fault of the driver, as another vehicle on the road lost its balance and ran into it. This has rendered it unworthy for the road. The Home is therefore badly in need of a bus to convey the children anytime there is the need to take them out and a pickup to carry out other services for the Home.
Also, an old, dilapidated building has been earmarked to be demolished and replaced with a more suitable structure to provide accommodation and serve other purposes, and this also needs funding.
The Home is also in dire need of security. There are thieves in the neighborhood who go in to steal various items. The collapse of the entire fence wall made it easier for them to enter the compound. The fence wall was quickly rebuilt to stop easy access to the compound, but this measure has not stopped the thievery.
For example, on one occasion a significant number of bags of cement were stolen, and poultry farming, which is being undertaken as another source of income for the Home, as well as supply the protein needs of the children is being crippled by rampant stealing of the birds.
